Preventive Dental Hygiene
Regular oral examinations and hygiene cleanings at Collingwood Dental Centre in Collingwood can help you prevent any dental issues and keep your smile healthy.
Preventative Oral Examinations
Routine oral exams, ideally twice a year, give your dentist the opportunity to discover any oral health issues and create a plan to treat them accordingly.
During your exam, your dentist will inspect the health of your teeth, gums, jaw and bite. Exams may also involve taking dental x-rays, an oral cancer screening and other diagnostic procedures.
Oral Cancer Screening
Any part of the mouth or surrounding tissues can become infected with oral cancer. During your exam, your dentist will check your face, lips, tongue, neck, tissues, gums and throat for any signs of oral cancer which are difficult to detect with the naked eye.
Oral Health Care at Home
Keep your smile healthy between dental appointments. Remember to brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes each time. Floss at least once per day.
Preventative Dental Hygiene Cleaning
Before or after your exam, your dental hygienist will complete a deep cleaning of your teeth and gums to prevent and treat disease.
To start, a scaler will be used to remove any plaque buildup and tartar. Next, your dentist will use a polisher and coarse toothpaste to remove any leftover stains or plaque, and follow this up with a thorough flossing of your teeth and gums.
Fluoride Treatment
If you or your child is at high risk of tooth decay, your dentist may also recommend a fluoride treatment. This natural mineral can help to rebuild the minerals in your tooth enamel to prevent or reverse tooth decay.
