Dental Sedation
At Collingwood Dental Centre in Collingwood, our dentists offer dental sedation options to make patients more comfortable during long procedures, and to calm anxious patients.
What is Dental Sedation?
At Collingwood Dental Centre, we use a range of techniques, including offering dental sedation, to ensure patients feel comfortable and relaxed during dental procedures. Our dentists can help you decide if a dental sedation option is right for you.
In addition to offering sedation options, we always work at our patients' pace, answer any questions you may have in language you can understand, take breaks when needed and provided calm reassurance as required.
Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
Inhaled through the mouth and nose, nitrous oxide produces a calming effect even though you remain awake and able to communicate. It also reduces gag reflex, makes time pass more quickly, increases pain threshold and tends to lessen anxiety.
Oral Sedation
Your dentist may prescribe oral sedatives or pills, which produce a calming effect to significantly relax you even though you will be awake for the procedure. Take this medication orally as directed before your dental appointment.
IV Sedation
IV sedatives offer the deepest level of sedation without general anesthesia. They are administered directly into the bloodstream through the vein. During the procedure, our dental team will track your vital signs with the help of a monitor.
General Anesthesia
This controlled state of unconsciousness eliminates discomfort, movement and awareness during your dental procedure. This allows your dentist to complete complex treatments in one appointment, while you sleep.
