Technologies at Our Dental Clinic

At Collingwood Dental Centre, the technology we use helps us plan treatment and help your dental appointments run as efficiently as we can.

Because we can display digital scans and X-rays on the monitors in our treatment rooms, we can show you any issues with your oral health, and explain your proposed treatment plan.

Our aim is to provide patients with efficient dental care, and ensure they are fully informed about their oral health. Dental technology helps us accomplish this goal.

X-Rays

Digital X-Rays

By replacing traditional photographic X-ray film with digital sensors, digital X-rays can produce extremely detailed computer images of your teeth and gums, as well as other oral conditions and structures. This allows your dentist to examine parts of the mouth that are not visible to the naked eye.

Panoramic X-Rays

Panoramic X-rays are often used to assist in treatment planning with braces, implants, dentures and extractions. The X-rays enable your dentist to create a single flat image of your entire mouth. This image represents the teeth, upper and lower jaws and temporomandibular joints (TMJ), in addition to the nasal and sinus structures.

iTero 3D Scanner

The iTero® intraoral scanner takes 3D impressions of your bite. It allows us to plan your dental treatment in real time, store data digitally, and create Invisalign clear aligners.

This scanner is an alternative to traditional dental impressions.

An optical scanning wand takes a digital image of your teeth, helping your dentist to capture data to create digital replicas of your mouth's hard and soft tissues for restorative purposes. From these replicas, we can produce veneers, implants and crowns.

Using the wand, your dentist can scan molars at the back of your mouth. These machines can also help us diagnose orthodontic issues and develop treatment plans.

Dental Lasers

Our dentists at Collingwood Dental Centre use lasers (focused light beams) in a wide range of hard and soft tissue dental procedures. The lasers help our dentists to perform these procedures with fewer medical interventions. They can reshape gums, remove decayed or overgrown tissue, whiten teeth or harden dental restorations quickly.

Oral Cancer Screening Device

The VELscope® helps the dentist to screen patients for oral cancer and find diseases and abnormalities in the mouth, including cancerous and pre-cancerous lesions. Leveraging fluorescence visualization technology, these screenings can be completed during dental appointments under normal lighting conditions in about two minutes.

CEREC Same-Day Restorations

Typically, patients would need to return to our office for multiple appointments when having a dental restoration such as a crown placed. But with CEREC® (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics), they can have their inlays and onlays and ceramic dental crowns fabricated and placed, all in a single appointment.

Cone Beam Cat Scan

This special type of X-ray machine produces 3D images of soft tissues, nerve paths, dental structures and bone in the craniofacial region in a single scan. Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) helps us offer more precise treatment planning, including examining your airway when treating snoring and sleep apnea. Thanks to CBCT, we have insights that allow us to plan effective and efficient treatments.
